WhatIWear recently asked me to contribute to their newsletter about my opinion on some fashion faux-pas. In case you didn't see their newsletter, here is the write-up that I did. For this blog post, I also integrated some photo examples to illustrate the points. Enjoy :)
THIS SEASON’S FASHION FAUX-PAS
You may already know some basic and seasonless fashion
no-no’s, like socks with sandals or granny panty line showing through pants. To make fashion faux-pas more relevant to the
current trends, I have summoned up my personal top 3 fashion faux-pas for 2012
trends.
1. Color blocking: This trend is everywhere nowadays.
Color blocking looks the best if you use two or three colors, with three colors
being the max. Over three? That’s just too much.
2. Loose clothing: I’m loving the trend with loose
blouses, boyfriend jeans, and loose, flowy dresses. However, the look doesn’t
work if you end up swimming in your entire outfit and hiding your feminine
figure. You can pair loose blouse with skinnies, boyfriend jeans with form-fitting top
or blazer, and loose dress can be cinched at the waist with a belt or paired
with a form fitting jacket.

3. Large floral print: Large floral prints are cute
because they can exude a vintage feel to them, but if you are wearing the same
large floral print from head to toe, you may risk looking like a sofa. To avoid
this mishap, pair a large floral print dress or bottom with a solid
jacket/blazer. If you would like to wear all prints from head to toe, mix and
match different prints for the top and the bottom.

I could not agree more with your point about the loose clothing. In fashion more is not always better! So many women try to wear one big loose outfit and they just drown in it. You are spot on with these points!

ReplyDeletePretty good write up Suzie! I love the color blocking, it's one of my favorite trend of 2012-2012 and I hope it'll carry over to 2013. Also, I want to add one more to your list...how about over doing ombre hair, it's a hot trend right now but I've seen some really extreme ones! :)
